

EFE promotes the development of tourist trains as part of its public-private partnership strategy, incorporating third party initiatives, for them to give an alternative use to the track-laying between La Calera and Puerto Montt, through public bidding for long term access contracts. The business model encourages the submission of projects, allowing the proponent’s efforts to be recognized in the evaluation process and awarding of the tendered service.
Access contracts allow the tour operator the right to use the railways and rail infrastructure, DUIF, establishing a payment for this service and additionally for a variable toll.
Supported by private projects, the company is currently promoting the development of tourist trains in the area of Lake Llanquihue and a long-distance service between the cities of Valparaíso and Puerto Montt.
