Triennial Plan

The Triennial Plan 2008-2010 has been developed together with the ministries of Finance, Economy and Transportation, and was presented to the National Congress. The projects proposed in the plan consider in its analysis: the advantages for the Chilean economy of having an efficient railway service and the positive externalities of the railways.

The current plan includes a total of 14 investment opportunities for an amount of US$ 292 Million, as illustrated in figure 1. They consists of a group of specific projects to increase capacity and reliability of the infrastructure and to improve traffic management of the railway network for both passenger and cargo transport services. Some representative projects of the current Triennial Plan are the following:

  • Rehabilitate 600 km of rail tracks between Concepción and Puerto Montt for cargo transport.
  • Improve the access to ports of the V and VIII Regions.
  • Restore the Arica – La Paz Railway.
  • Upgrade the railway’s Signaling, Energy and Communications.
  • Upgrade the communication platform between trains and traffic control.
  • Renew traffic tracking system.
  • Incorporate a traffic planning system.
